A dental implant is a dental treatment used to replace a lost or decayed tooth or teeth. This procedure involves an artificial tooth root that is fixed to the jawbone with a titanium screw-like material called an implant. The implant tooth is used to restore the functionality and aesthetics of the lost tooth and provides a look and feel very similar to natural teeth.
Implant dental treatment consists of several stages. First, a surgical procedure is performed on the jawbone where the implant will be placed. This creates a strong foundation for the implant to be fixed. Then, after the implant is placed, the healing process begins. The implant integrates with the jawbone and sits firmly on the bone tissue. This process can take several months.
When the healing is complete, the dentist prepares an artificial tooth (porcelain tooth) and places it over the implant. This artificial tooth is designed and shaped to match the natural teeth. As a result, the patient's lost tooth is replaced.
Implant dental treatment has many advantages. These advantages can be as follows:
Aesthetics: Implant teeth offer a similar appearance to natural teeth, so they are aesthetically pleasing.
Function: Implant teeth restore chewing, speaking and other oral functions like natural teeth.
Durability: Implants are long-lasting and can last for years with proper care.
No Damage to Surrounding Teeth: Unlike other traditional dental prostheses, they do not damage the surrounding teeth because they are not dependent on neighboring teeth.
